What can happen? The Risks of Upgrading
There are four possible options each time you attempt to upgrade one of your items. Please keep in mind that upgrading your equipment is risky. It is recommended to use all available help items to ensure your equipment doesn't get destroyed!

Option 1: Nothing happens.

You lose the materials and the equipment stays the same. If you used Mithril Powder, it will be consumed as well. If you used a Slate Piece of the Ancient, it will not disappear.

Option 2: Initialization.
This happens if you try to upgrade to +2 or higher. All your previous upgrades will be gone as well as the materials. Your equipment will be back to +0. Hint: You can prevent this from happening by using a Slate Piece of Ancient. The Slate Piece of Ancient will be consumed in that case.

Option 3: Failure.

This happens if you try to upgrade to +4 or higher. The worst possible option! Your equipment will be gone as well as the materials. Hint: You can prevent this from happening by using a Slate Piece of Ancient. The Slate Piece of Ancient will be consumed in that case.

Option 4: Upgrade Success!
Congratulations - your equipment is now stronger and your weapon will be glowing if you upgrade it to +4 or higher! Hint: You can increase your success rate by using Mithril Powder.

The higher you have already upgraded the equipment (+1, +2, +3 etc.), the more likely your equipment will suffer anything but an upgrade. Protect your equipment with the "Help Items" to make sure you won't lose anything!

Upgrade Stones
Upgrade Stones can be found by hunting monsters. You only need one Upgrade Stone for each upgrade, no matter whether you want to upgrade to +1 or +10. Every time you try to upgrade your equipment, the Upgrade Stone will be consumed. Each Upgrade Stone is valid for a certain level range:
  • Item level 1~20: 1 Grade 9 Upgrade Stone
  • Item level 11~30: 1 Grade 8 Upgrade Stone
  • Item level 11~40: 1 Grade 7 Upgrade Stone
  • Item level 11~50: 1 Grade 6 Upgrade Stone
  • Item level 11~60: 1 Grade 5 Upgrade Stone
  • Item level 11~70: 1 Grade 4 Upgrade Stone
  • Item level 11~80: 1 Grade 3 Upgrade Stone
  • Item level 11~90: 1 Grade 2 Upgrade Stone
  • Item level 11~100: 1 Grade 1 Upgrade Stone
Crystals
Crystals are enchanted with the magical energy that flows through the world of Florensia. Alchemists from the Noble Masquer Union have managed to find a way how to extract the magical energy from common weapons and equipment. You can get the Crystals as follows:
  • Go out and hunt some monsters to find equipment and weapons
  • Go to the owner of the smithy in any town and choose the "Item Break" option
  • Every piece of equipment, accessories, shields and weapons (except for cash items) can be broken to receive Crystals
  • Right-click on the item you want to break to insert it into the slot in the item break window, then press the button
  • Congratulations - your item has been destroyed! Take a look at your inventory to see the Crystal (or Crystals) you received
  • No matter which level and quality the broken item had, you will always find up to five Crystals in your inventory.
  • If you break weapons, there is a low chance you will receive Crystals of a higher level. For example, if you break a level 25 weapon, you can either receive the common Yellow Crystals or Blue Crystals which are normally only available from level 31~40 equipment
  • The crystals don't add special effects to your equipment. They are only reagents for upgrading your equipment. Take a look at the Sealed Items System to find out more about improving your equipment

Take a look at the following overview to find out what kind of Crystal you will receive and what you can use them for:
  • Item level 1~10 - Gray Crystal - used for upgrading equipment of level 1~10
  • Item level 11~20 - Green Crystal - used for upgrading equipment of level 11~20
  • Item level 21~30 - Yellow Crystal - used for upgrading equipment of level 21~30
  • Item level 31~40 - Blue Crystal - used for upgrading equipment of level 31~40
  • Item level 41~50 - Red Crystal - used for upgrading equipment of level 41~50
  • Item level 51~60 - Orange Crystal - used for upgrading equipment of level 51~60
  • Item level 61~70 - Pink Crystal - used for upgrading equipment of level 61~70
  • Item level 71~80 - Purple Crystal - used for upgrading equipment of level 71~80
  • Item level 81~90 - Black Crystal - used for upgrading equipment of level 81~90
  • Item level 91~100 - Rainbow Crystal - used for upgrading equipment of level 91~100
Take a look at the following overview to find out how many Crystals you will need for upgrading your equipment:
  • Level 1 upgrade: 1 Crystal
  • Level 2 upgrade: 1 Crystal
  • Level 3 upgrade: 2 Crystals
  • Level 4 upgrade: 2 Crystals
  • Level 5 upgrade: 3 Crystals
  • Level 6 upgrade: 3 Crystals
  • Level 7 upgrade: 4 Crystals
  • Level 8 upgrade: 4 Crystals
  • Level 9 upgrade: 4 Crystals
  • Level 10 upgrade: 5 Crystals

Confused? Examples:
  • Simone went to Larksdowns with her Excavator and found level 13 Gloves. After the item break process, she found 2 Green Crystals in her inventory. But as her equipment is level 45, she would need Red Crystals for upgrading. Too bad!
  • Achim however was a little more clever and went to Avery Dungeon with his Guardian Swordsman, as he was looking for Crystals to upgrade his huge level 57 Sword from +9 to +10. Having killed many Skeletons, he finally found some level 53 pieces of equipment, broke them at the NPC and received five Orange Crystals. Congratulations! **

** But as he didn't have a Slate Piece of the Ancient, his Sword got destroyed when he tried to upgrade it.
